TOURISM IN THE CHIANTI

The Romanesque church of Santa Maria Novella (alt. 478 mt.),
whose three naves were completely rebuilt at the beginning of the
last (19th) century, is especially characterized by the frescos and the
decoration of the neo-classical vaults. The baptismal font with its
majolica panels in style della Robbia is of particular interest.
Outside three columns with antique capitals are still visible from the
originai construction. During the 12th century, under the jurisdiction
of high caliber prelates such as Cardinal Giovanni Colonna, the
pieve, parish, assumed great importance both because of its beautiful
position and its equally impressive structure.
